The Great Divide is a collective playing the
music of singer-songwriter Gerald Clark. It features Gerald's piano playing,
horn and string arranging and singing, backed by vocalist Beatrice Leclere;
the drumming of Eric Young, and the fine musicians that have
helped to realise Gerald's vision in Terra Firma.
Their debut album "Terra Firma" features many characters searching
for Solid Ground - be it the political prisoner in Guantanamo; the 'Marty'
character in Koma-Ma Washi, or the reflection back to an idyllic childhood
of Dacha (itself inspired by Nikita Mikhalkov's Burnt by the Sun).
Name-checking London, Cuba and all the experiences in between – this
is an album of complex, multi facetted compositions, unlike so much of
the formula- based music of today, repaying repeated listening. Its an
opening statement, but Gerald is still writing songs like this - there
will be more from The Great Divide. |
